Alan Cann is the bands leader and has been playing music semi professionally since age of 15. He plays multi instruments beginning with the Piano and then Accordion in his teens. He is the keyboard player and one of four vocalists in the group.

Alan has played his music from Sydney pubs to Darwin restaurants, and was resident muso on a Whitsunday Barrier Reef Tourist Resort. He enjoys the music of Billy Joel, Keith Green and Ray Charles and has been influenced by many contemporary Christian artists. The Old Boys Gospel Band plays a selection of Popular Classic Rock with a blend of Gospel Songs and was formed in early 2006.

The purpose and mission of the band is to visit Correctional Centres, and will continue to collaborate with Prison Fellowship Queensland.

In a typical prison visitation, the eight piece band seeks to encourage the listener to consider and explore positive life changing options.
This is facilitated through a professionally presented selection of popular and gospel music performed in concert.

The band uses a carefully chosen blend of songs, each delivering a message that seeks to reflect the ups and downs of life, intended to lead the listener to a place they may not have been i.e. where they are confronted with the love of God, and glimpse that this gift is something they should not dismiss lightly.

Woven into this mix of positive and negative secular songs, the gospel song selection speaks of the love of God and His desire to be involved in the day to day of people's lives. The music is interspersed with short testimonials from members of the band.

The repertoire takes approximately 60 minutes to perform, followed by a low key spoken challenge designed to give others in ministry, a place to move on from in follow up visits to the centres.

A church concert will include a segment of Praise and Worship songs, while showcasing some of the "connection" songs the band uses to bring the message of hope to those attending.
